Since this is my first blog in the reign of Forza Motorsport 3, and you’re here reading, I suppose a warm welcome to the DIY era is in order. So….. thanks for checking us out.
The anticipation is making me a little edgy, but the anxiety and wretched spasms that afflict me will mercifully come to an end on the 27th, and all I can hope for is a midnight release and a quick reprieve from my suffering.
When we laid the groundwork for the launch of DIY three months ago, all the info we had was 50% more tuning options. So we had to roll with what we knew would be part of version 3 based upon the idea that whatever was part of tuning in FM2 would still be there. Good thing for us a sway bar is still a sway bar, and a spring is still a spring, so the nature of what it takes to set up a car shouldn’t change much. But keep in mind, as you surf the site, that the zygote that is developing before your eyes will mature into a full grown wonder child as time elapses and we grow increasingly intimate with latest incarnation of Forza Motorsport.
Forza 2 got it’s hooks into me as soon as I popped it into my console. I was on a quest to become the best tuner I could be and I wanted to know everything. I read books, I asked questions, and pounded the Forza forums for answers. I was so lame in regard to tuning that 2 ½ years ago I had to bribe a guy on XBOX Live to sell me a tune. He made me buy him a Chrysler ME 412 to add to his garage. I was more than eager to comply.
I also bought my fair share of tuned cars which was cool, but after a while I started to tweak them to my liking anyway. What I found was that as my knowledge base evolved, the ‘mystique’ that revolved around tuning evaporated, and rather than looking over at the Leader Board to see what the fast guys were doing, I started saying, “Umm no, I’m not setting up my car like that.” And as a result, I became confident in what I was doing, rather than choosing to second guess myself because somebody was doing something else. The moral of the story is that a tune is personal in regard to what works for you, and if you’re running the fastest laps you’re capable of, then your tunes are good.
Forza Motorsport changed my life. About a year and a half ago I met Impala through XBL. He lives in my area so I agreed to meet up with him at a car meet. He's a New Jersey boy and has good taste in beer, so we started hanging out. But more importantly he turned me on to autocross. After doing my first ever event in a rental car, I went out and bought a 2008 Honda S2000-CR for the specific purpose of running autocross in a competitive car. You can check out this link for more details if you think autocross is something that might interest you:

If you’re into tuning, testing, and trying to tweak a car (as well as your driving skills) to run the fastest laps possible, then autocross is something you should seriously consider as a hobby. I’ll get more into my excursions in the world of autocross in future blogs (and may even put together another website exclusively dedicated to the subject).
But for now, there’s going to be so much going on with figuring out tuning for FM3 in the upcoming months, that we're dedicated to providing more information in regard to the matter at hand. Right now, things are about your confidence level, and gaining the knowledge you need to run your own set-ups and get the most out of your Forza Motorsport 3 experience. Don’t be afraid to tune. Cheers until next time.
